Christoph is an architect and founder of A KIND OF SPACE. His work builds on long-standing experience with complex cultural and urban projects shaped by spatial, social, historical and climatic conditions. He understands architecture as a collaborative practice grounded in dialogue and exchange.
From 1999 to 2024 he worked at David Chipperfield Architects, the Pritzker Prize–winning practice, in London and Berlin as Managing Director, Design Director and Partner. He contributed to the development and international profile of the office and, as author and co-author, was involved in all phases of design and delivery. Selected projects include Morland Mixité Capitale in Paris, the Amorepacific headquarters in Seoul, the extension of Kunsthaus Zürich, and the masterplan for Museum Island Berlin including the initial concept for the James Simon Gallery.
Christoph trained as a carpenter in the Black Forest before studying product and furniture design at Central Saint Martins and architecture at the Architectural Association in London. He has taught at the Architectural Association, served as external examiner at London Metropolitan University, and regularly lectures, acts as a critic and competition juror. He is a member of the Design Advisory Board of the City of Pforzheim.
