We are honoured to have won the competition for the transformation of the Hoffbauer Foundation’s school campus south of Berlin, together with bächlemeid architekten bda and Lohrengel Landschaft. The former Siemens office site beside the protected Bäketal landscape will be developed into a coherent campus for learning, living and leisure. New sports facilities and around 120 homes extend the existing ensemble, integrating architecture, urban design and landscape into a shared spatial identity.  Sports uses are concentrated in the eastern part of the site, where an elevated timber double sports hall is constructed above the existing hall. Its spanning structure integrates shared changing rooms, fitness and technical spaces while freeing up valuable open space for the campus. In the west, three ring-shaped residential buildings add around 120 apartments. Referencing the circular primary school, they form smaller neighbourhoods with communal courtyards that encourage social interaction and accommodate teachers, families and neighbours. A continuous green ribbon strengthens the centre of the campus with recreation areas, sports fields and an open-air auditorium. Along Schwarzen Weg, a neighbourhood garage with 237 car and 585 bicycle spaces and an integrated energy centre supports a largely traffic-free and safe campus interior.
